October Happenings

October 3, 2022

It’s officially Autumn!

Ah, yes, October…

“In the entire circle of the year there are no days so delightful as those of a fine October.”

― Alexander Smith

As I was getting ready to write this email, I looked up literary quotes regarding October and went down a rabbit hole, delighted to find so many. Reading so much love for this month got me thinking about why it’s one of my personal favorite months of the year.

October ushers in that time of the year where the change in season is subtle. She sneaks in through open windows, before dawn, to kiss your cheeks with chilly lips. She tints the sunrise a golden ocher, and flits from tree to tree, knocking down leaves and acorns, delighting in the impermanence of the season. October wraps herself in the haze of sweet chimney smoke, and crowns herself with the last of the garden’s flowers, leaving a few to decay and return to the earth; an offering for Spring. She lightly brushes her hands past the thinning veil, letting in glimpses of ethereal magic. With misty eyes, do we truly see what we think we see?

In many cultures and religious groups, October 31st/November 1st is the start of a new turn on the wheel of the year. A time to take stock after the final harvest, to put up what has been gathered, and to store it for use during the coming winter months. It’s a time to reflect on what has transpired over the last twelve months and to look ahead at the coming year. It’s a time to give thanks for the blessings of the past year and to honor those who are no longer with us.

The Gaelic festival of Samhain emphasizes the deepening darkness of the coming months and is a reminder to me that this is a time to be quiet and slow, deliberate in my actions, and is a reminder that I need to reflect on the path behind me as I look to the path ahead.

With that in mind, I’ve been really busy this summer at the shop and have been gearing up for these last few months of the year. Halloween weekend marks the one year anniversary of the storefront and I’ve been working on a fun party to celebrate this milestone! The new Fall Collection candles are now available on the website and in the shop, and I’ve been cooking up some more after-hours class offerings. I hope you are enjoying this change of season as much as I am. Oh, and as a bonus, if you read all the way to the end of this email, I created an October Spotify Playlist for you to enjoy.

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
― L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

A World of Octobers

I got a lot of positive feedback about the September playlist I posted, so I’ve created another Spotify Playlist for you to enjoy. Here is what I’m listening to this October…
